founded in 1990 in Ventura, California by James, (Jim) Price after several years of work in the boating and environmental industry. Jim’s unique ability to find value in waste streams became apparent while developing a very early program for Fly Ash, and Cement Kiln Dust remediation. Following in the cement footsteps of his Dad and Grandfather, along with an innate mechanical and inquisitive mind, Jim and his team developed remediation processes for a variety of wastes headed for landfills. Running an environmental business in the contentious and litigatory climate of California has brought many challenges yet every challenge has provided another revenue stream. “I would have never thought a lot of what we do would end up benefitting the environment the way it has… “, says Jim. “So much of what we do benefits our clients economically as well as reducing landfill inputs and carbon outputs”.
By 1997 the business had grown and it was apparent a larger property was needed. In April two acres with a seldom used Union Pacific rail spur was purchased in the agro-industrial center of Oxnard, CA .With over a half million tons of CKD transported and offloaded by that time, the experience was there to build a small batch plant and blending operation. Knowledge gained and a “nothing is too big attitude” led to phenomenal growth in transport, blending, and offloading. Running a 24/7 plant tested the available equipment, so Jim and team set about building machinery that would thrive and work in the abrasive and sometime alkaline nature of various cementious materials. The result was several patents and a company called Diversified Storage Systems, (cementsilos.com)
Now with over 20 years in business the plant has expanded to seven acres encompassing five portable batch plants, four warehouses, packaging with direct to market logistics, onsite manufacturing and one of the cleanest and environmentally sound ready-mix plants. It is a state of the art water reuse and sand / aggregate recapture facility and the U.P. rail spur allows transport at low cost with the added advantage of having the lowest CO2 footprint. DMI is not just plant and materials; It has teams of experts with over a hundred years of combined expertise in environmental services. “Our reputation is our employees,” says Jim.
